The Southern Counties Open was the fulfilment of a dream of the then tournament chairman Tom Palmer. The first tournament was held in 2007 at the Trinity Club in Dorchester, and has grown in strength to become the high profile tournament you see today, with many thanks also to loads of local sponsors who donate prize money to the tournament each year. The tournament is now played at The George Albert Hotel as Southern Counties Darts and the weekend includes a Juniors, Ladies, Mixed Pairs, Money In / Out competition, before the main event The Tom Palmer Open held on the Sunday, named after Tom Palmer who started this event many years ago and worked hard as dart committee chairmen. After an initial difficult couple of years the tournament is now attracting top quality players and has become a high profile Dorset event.

Of course, players enjoy the thrill of playing for money. The Southern Counties darts includes various cash prizes for each of the tournament competitions to add the 'spice' to proceedings. The George Albert Hotel is a private, family owned hotel located in the rolling Dorset countryside. Offering all the modern facilities you would expect from a new hotel, it still retains a distinctive friendly atmosphere. Situated on the A37, between the county towns of Yeovil and Dorchester. The air conditioned, purpose built hotel opened in 2010.
